Laura Jane Armstrong is an aspiring cellist awarded scholarships to a variety of music Conservatoires and studying at the Royal Academy of Music with Benjamin Hughes. She has played as a soloist with Harrogate Philharmonic Orchestra, as well as an orchestral member of the Northern Chamber Orchestra and toured Scandinavia as a member of the Estonian Festival Orchestra under the baton of Paavo Jarvi. Her most recent performance was the debut of the Seashells duo at Ronnie Scott's jazz club. Recent contemporary classical work includes under the direction of Oliver Knussen, and with Harrison Birtwistle and Graham Fitkin.
Highlights of this year have included radio broadcasts on BBC Radio 3, Swedish radio and WBGO (a New York radio station) and participation in the Northern Chords music festival, which accumulated with a chamber orchestra performance at the Sage Gateshead. Also a performance at the Royal Albert hall as a member of the Royal Academy Symphony Orchestra and participation in IMS Prussia Cove as a member of the Tee Trio.
